YOUR DRIVEWAY CLEANING ENQUIRY
Plan your driveway cleaning work
Request cleaning of an existing drive with its surface, condition and staining described. Agree the method, runoff handling and any separate repairs or re-sanding.
What to include in your enquiry
- The surface, area and stains or growth to address
- Any sealant, loose joints or previous damage
- Water access, drainage and whether re-sanding or other follow-on work is wanted
- State whether you own, rent or manage the property and who can authorise this driveway cleaning work
What should the quote cover?
Compare the assessed method, protection, runoff handling, re-sanding or other finishing work and stated exclusions. Ask what will be left ready for use and what defects cleaning cannot repair.
Does cleaning also repair movement or failed paving joints?
Not automatically. Surface treatment, joint reinstatement and construction repairs are different tasks. Agree each required part explicitly and avoid expecting cleaning to correct an underlying structural issue.
Property and responsibility checks
Agree how contaminated washwater and debris will be controlled. A visible drain is not automatic permission to discharge cleaning runoff or proof of a suitable receiving asset.
- Identify the actual property, asset and owner before commissioning changes
- Include relevant plans, reports or permission information; do not assume approval
- Agree access, protection and making good where the work affects retained surfaces

Cleaning changes appearance, not construction
Quick answer
Request cleaning of an existing drive with its surface, condition and staining described. Agree the method, runoff handling and any separate repairs or re-sanding.
Enquire about cleaning a driveway or paving, with the surface, stains and suitable washing method agreed before treatment.
Dirt, organic growth and staining can make a sound surface look tired, but cleaning does not repair a failed base or correct drainage levels. Identify the material and condition before choosing a method. Ask the business to distinguish cleaning, stain treatment, joint reinstatement and repairs. A photograph of a dramatic colour change is not evidence that every surface can achieve the same result. Keep damaged or unstable areas in the discussion before work so the method does not worsen them.
Use the right material guidance
Block paving, natural stone, resin and asphalt can need different products and techniques. Ask the business to follow the actual manufacturer/material guidance and assess condition. Avoid one universal pressure or chemical recipe. Marshalls publishes maintenance manuals for different paving types; these are reference information, not our selected supplier list. A test area can help assess appearance where appropriate, but it does not settle every concealed weakness or product limitation.
Joints and permeable systems
A cleaning proposal should account for the specified jointing and any reinstatement needed. Conventional sand joints and permeable aggregate joints are not interchangeable. Ask what material will be used and how drainage function is preserved. Marshalls’ product guidance notes that some sealing can affect infiltration, so do not assume sealing is a necessary next step for every cleaned driveway. The installed system and supplier requirements should govern. A clean-looking surface with incompatible joints can have a changed function.
Useful next steps
Stains, growth and realistic results
Oil marks, weathering, colour differences and surface damage may respond differently to cleaning. Have expected results and limitations explained before accepting a guarantee of a like-new finish. Ask about surrounding plants, thresholds, nearby materials and ordinary access while the area is wet. The quote should identify treatment and any later stages rather than silently add a chemical or coating. Keep manufacturer care information available. Appearance changes should be agreed with the owner, especially where a rental or shared area is involved.
Discuss the finish you want and ask whether the surface can realistically achieve it. Agree how a test area is reviewed and whether any existing defects affect the method. Make sure the business knows about earlier coatings or treatments where records are available.
Where the driveway is shared, agree access and timing with the responsible manager or owners. A wet or temporarily unavailable surface can affect normal use even when no construction is taking place. The quotation should explain the programme and any follow-on stage so joint reinstatement or drying is not left as an unspecified extra.
Agree runoff and protection before cleaning
Tell the business the surface type, existing damage and any recent sealant or repairs. Ask how the method will protect joints, edges, planting and nearby finishes, and what aftercare is proposed. A cleaning method should suit the actual material; appearance alone does not identify an appropriate pressure or product.
What should this quotation actually cover?
Ask whether the quote includes…
Compare the assessed method, protection, runoff handling, re-sanding or other finishing work and stated exclusions. Ask what will be left ready for use and what defects cleaning cannot repair.
- Material/condition assessment and the agreed method.
- Debris/runoff handling and appropriate joint reinstatement.
- Separate coating decision, VAT and access restrictions.
Aftercare and an enquiry
Follow the supplied care instructions and ask when normal use resumes. Retain product details where treatments or joints were changed. If ponding, loose areas or movement persist, obtain the appropriate repair/drainage assessment rather than repeat cleaning indefinitely. For an enquiry, send postcode, approximate area, material and main concern, including known damage. We review requests for suitable local help; sending details does not book work or guarantee that every stain can be removed.
Agree how contaminated washwater and debris will be controlled. A visible drain is not automatic permission to discharge cleaning runoff or proof of a suitable receiving asset.
